CASTLES IN ROMAGNA

San Marino is the most famous fortress in the world, never dull: the oldest republic in the world, with three medieval towers and breathtaking views. A 40-minute drive (which becomes an hour on cloudy days!).

The most beautiful castle, however, is in San Leo: Count Cagliostro's imposing construction stands in a fortified village. Plan a visit to this area, called Montefeltro, and stop at one of the many quality restaurants. A 55-minute drive away.

And the most mysterious? Definitely the Castle of Montebello, where the legend of Azzurrina's ghost makes for a truly captivating guided tour. A word of advice: visit the website (CLICK HERE) to see when to experience the ghostly and memorable guided tour at night.

Not least, the castle of Gradara: the scene of the tragic story of Paolo and Francesca recounted in Dante's Inferno, it is the fortress that symbolises love for couples. During the Valentine's Day period, this magnificent castle lights up red and organises events and ceremonies to celebrate the value of love.
